What causes parodontitis and how?

In the mouth we see the crown of a tooth. Under the gum is the root of the tooth, which is fixed in the bone and the gum can be seen on the surface. Healthy gums are firm, pink in colour and do not bleed after being touched. If the gum bleeds after being touched, it means that inflammation is present. Gingivitis is a defensive reaction of our body, which defends itself against bacteria that are found on the surface of the tooth in the form of a biofilm. This is a structure containing bacteria that are pathogenic to our bodies and cause the disease in the oral cavity called parodontitis.

If pathogenic bacteria begin to reside in the biofilm on the teeth, our organism begins to fight back. Our gums bleed because the body produces blood, which contains defensive agents. These defensive substances fight off the bacteria in the biofilm in the mouth and kill them. However, in this “battle” between bacteria and our body, various toxic substances are produced that attack the tissues around the tooth. The tissues around the tooth begin to dissolve and the bone holding the tooth starts to recede, which results in periodontitis/parodontitis. If you suffer from chronic/long-lasting inflammation of your gums, it leads to tooth loss. Because, when the tissues and the bone that holds the teeth recede, the teeth will have nothing to hold them and they will start to wobble and eventually they can fall out.

We recommend not underestimating gingivitis! The most important thing is to see a dentist or dental hygienist who will find the cause of the gingivitis and set up the appropriate treatment to make your smile healthy again.

How to treat parodontitis?

The treatment of parodontitis takes a long time, but it is worthwhile for the beautiful smile that you will have at the end of it. The key is thorough and professional cleaning of the teeth, which will stop gingivitis and keep your teeth and gums clean. This is the only way to stop parodontitis! Unfortunately, this disease cannot be cured completely. The receding bone will never grow back to its original state. We can only stop parodontitis at the stage it is currently at and we can help prevent it from spreading.
