Surgical extraction is performed when the tooth has not yet erupted through the gums, but is causing the patient uncomfortable pain. Many patients associate this with the unpleasant coming in of wisdom teeth. However, the whole process of the wisdom teeth coming in is individual. In some cases, patients didn’t even feel that their eights (wisdom teeth) had come in. On the other hand, some patients have very unpleasant memories from this time.

Wisdom teeth coming in can cause acute inflammation, which needs to be removed immediately. The affected area is cleaned and the entire area around the erupted crown is soothed. In most cases, a special drain and solutions are used for this, which serve for general disinfection. After soothing, the dentist can perform the tooth extraction.

Wisdom teeth extraction is performed in a number of cases:

Lack of room for the wisdom teeth
Crooked teeth
Gingivitis
Dental abscesses
Dental cysts
Pericoronitis

If the crown erupts

In this case, it is easier for the doctor to extract the tooth. The extraction is done using pliers. This method is one of the most conventional and can also be called “hassle-free”. The tooth is extracted, the wound is sutured and the patient goes home to heal up.

What if the crown is not erupted?

This can also happen. But it’s nothing we can’t handle in our clinic! The crown does not have to have erupted, but it can still cause the patient a lot of trouble. The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia, so the patient does not have to worry about unpleasant pain. If the crown has not erupted, the doctor must make a necessary incision in the gum. This way he can reach the bone that is covering the wisdom tooth. To prevent damage to the surrounding tissue, the tooth is usually cut into smaller pieces. After all the pieces have been removed, the doctor thoroughly inspects the extraction area and sutures the wound.

How quickly does a wound left after wisdom tooth extraction heal?

Wound healing after extraction is different from patient to patient. Following these individual steps will help the extraction wound heal faster:

After the extraction is performed, you will be given a sterile swab in your mouth, which you need to bite down on and hold for about 15 minutes. It is important not to underestimate the first step because biting down on the swab stops bleeding from the extraction wound.
After the anaesthesia wears off, there may be mild pain and, after a few hours, swelling. Do not place anything warm on your cheek! Heat can cause the wound to bleed again. If swelling starts to form, you can apply cold compresses to your cheek.
Do not rinse after the procedure and during the rest of the day! It is necessary to let a blood clot form, which is essential for the continuous healing of the extraction wound. The entire healing process takes approximately 4-6 weeks depending on the medical history. In principle, the gums are the first to start healing, afterwards the bone starts to heal.
After 2-3 days, you can start rinsing your mouth. Our dentists will recommend special alcohol-free mouthwashes that clean the wound but do not irritate it. During treatment, we recommend avoiding alcoholic beverages that can cause bleeding and also not smoking!
Avoid dairy products, hard foods, spicy foods or hot drinks for the first few days after the procedure.
Even though you have undergone surgery, don’t underestimate regular oral hygiene. This prevents the formation of disease-causing bacteria. However, be careful when cleaning around the wound!
If the pain does not subside after a few days or the wound keeps bleeding, do not hesitate to contact us right away!

Dental Centrum som navštívil s bolesťou osmicky, kvôli ktorej som nemohol už ani spat. Objednal som sa cez internet a o pár hodín som už sedel v kresle. Popísal som ťažkosti, nasledoval rýchly RTG a zub išiel von. Všetko vidíte pred sebou na obrazovke. Pan doktor Bódi mi počas celého vysetrenia vysvetľoval čo sa bude diat - špeciálne jemu dakujem! Všetko prebehlo bez bolesti. Motivovaný na ďalšiu návštevu vrelo odporúčam, príjemný personál, skvele vybavenie, vsetko na jednotku 👍

Odporúčam všetkým, ktorý majú strach zo zubára. Naozaj milý, ľudský prístup a ceny sú tiež prijateľné. Určite sa tam veľmi rada vrátim ( a to mám panický strach zo zubarov). Ďakujem obzvlášť pánovi doktorovi Novákovi za jeho prístup a pomoc.

Potreboval som narýchlo opraviť zub, tak som pogooglil, zavolal sem a dostal rýchly termín (môj zubár mal všetko obsadené na najbližšie 3 mesiace). Krásne moderné priestory, recepcia, high tech zariadeniela a najmä profesionalita aj s podaním ruky. Pripravte si peňaženku, tu sa na poisťovňu nerobí.

Do Dental Centrum Nivy chodím už niekoľko rokov. O moje zuby sa vždy kvalitne postarali bývalá skvelá pani doktorka Bordašová a skvelý pan doktor Novák, ktorý mi robil kvalitny zubny mostik a ja sa tak môžem usmievať. Viem,že keď mám akýkoľvek problém alebo bolesť zubov,mozem sa na nich kedykoľvek obrátiť. K inému zubárovi by som už nešla.

Bol som trhať zub. Všetko prebehlo v poriadku, pán doktor bol profesionálny. Vybavili ma naozaj za 15 minút, ani som poriadne nečakal. Zákrok bezbolestný, mesiac aj niečo po zákroku nemám žiadne problémy takže odporúčam
