Teeth sandblasting/airflow is a procedure using compressed air, water and powder that gently removes plaque, pigments and even slightly calcified/hardened tartar from the surface of the teeth.
Sandblasting/airflow is currently the best technology to safely clean the surface of the teeth without damaging them or the gums, and it is also the most effective cleaning method, because with the powder we can get to hard-to-reach places such as interdental spaces, fissures on the chewing surfaces of the teeth, the area around dentures or around orthodontic brackets.
However, there are many kinds of devices and powders on the market, which have different granularity. The smaller the granularity and the better the technology, the gentler the treatment of the tooth surface.
At Dental Centrum NIVY we focus mainly on painless and professional treatments, which is why we use the most modern technologies. One of our more modern technologies is the Airflow Prophylaxis Master, which we use to work effectively and with minimal invasiveness. This device is an external sandblaster for teeth that comes from Switzerland and is backed by scientific studies. We use the finest powder on the market to safely, thoroughly and painlessly clean the surface of the teeth.
This device will also please patients who have teeth sensitive to cold, because it uses warm water.
Biofilm forms on the teeth immediately after cleaning. First, a salivary pellicle bind to the teeth, which protects the tooth from external factors such as acidic foods or beverages. The salivary pellicle begins to gather bacteria, which form a biofilm/coating of plaque on the teeth. This plaque thickens over time and after 48 hours a mature biofilm is formed. A mature biofilm contains pathogenic bacteria that already cause oral disease, tooth decay, gingivitis or periodontitis/parodontitis. If this biofilm is not cleaned regularly every day by means of personal oral hygiene, a mature biofilm will build up in your mouth with lots of bacteria. This means that, if you want to have healthy beautiful teeth and gums without inflammation, it is important to thoroughly remove the biofilm from the surface of your teeth every day. Knowing the correct technique and using interdental brushes is a guaranteed success for healthy gums and healthy teeth.
If you have healthy teeth, we recommended that you receive dental hygiene twice per year. If you are suffering from periodontitis/paradontosis, it is important to keep the biofilm under check so that the disease does not progress rapidly. Therefore, in such cases we recommended receiving dental hygiene three to four times a year.
